India's artificial intelligence story is increasingly moving beyond software and AI models into the infrastructure required to power them.
In a major development, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a mega order valued between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore to build a large-scale AI infrastructure facility at its Chennai data-centre campus. The project is being developed for Together AI, a US-based AI cloud platform, and will have the capacity to host 10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs in a single integrated AI Factory.
The order marks L&T's entry into the AI Factory business, a segment focused on combining high-performance computing, data-centre infrastructure, networking, storage and AI operations into an integrated platform capable of handling demanding artificial intelligence workloads.
The Chennai facility will support Together AI's AI-native cloud platform, including large-scale AI training, inference and fine-tuning workloads.
The scale of the project is significant not only because of its financial value but also because it brings together three important parts of the global AI ecosystem—Indian infrastructure, NVIDIA's advanced computing technology and Together AI's cloud platform.
What Is Being Built?
The AI Factory will be hosted at Vyoma.AI's Chennai data-centre campus, which L&T describes as a gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure site.
According to L&T, Phase 1 of the Chennai campus is designed for 250 MW, with power infrastructure readiness of 150 MVA. The site is intended to provide room for further expansion of AI computing infrastructure.
The integrated facility will combine:
- Hyperscale data-centre infrastructure
- NVIDIA accelerated computing
- High-performance networking
- Ultra-low-latency interconnects
- High-throughput parallel storage
- AI infrastructure operations
Together, these components are designed to allow large AI workloads to run across the computing infrastructure without treating the data centre, GPUs, networking and storage as separate systems.
