Indian Air Force serviceman Pormeet Hajong has scripted history by becoming the first athlete from Meghalaya to win HYROX Delhi, one of the world's fastest-growing indoor fitness competitions. Representing South West Garo Hills, Hajong partnered with Haryana's Sonu Yadav to secure first place in the Men's Doubles category at the Masters' Union HYROX Delhi, held at Yashobhoomi, IICC, New Delhi.
The pair completed the demanding race in 1 hour, 18 minutes and 3 seconds, delivering an impressive performance in their debut HYROX event. Their victory is being hailed as a landmark achievement for Meghalaya and a proud moment for the state's sporting fraternity.

What is HYROX?
HYROX is a globally standardised fitness race that combines endurance running with functional workout stations. Participants complete 8 kilometres of running, with each kilometre followed by a different fitness challenge. The event includes SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer's carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls, testing speed, strength, stamina and mental resilience under the same race format worldwide.

From Half Marathons to HYROX Champion
Pormeet's endurance journey began in 2023 when he participated in his first half marathon in New Delhi. Since then, he has competed in several prestigious road races, including the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, TCS World 10K Bengaluru, Tata Steel Kolkata 25K and the Tata Mumbai Marathon. He has also completed the challenging 100-km ultra-marathon "THE BORDER 2025", showcasing his commitment to endurance sports.
Looking ahead, Pormeet said he now aims to participate in triathlon events and continue challenging himself while making Meghalaya proud.
