Ashish Yadav Wins Silver in Men's Javelin at World Athletics U20 Championships

India opened its medal account at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, with young javelin thrower Ashish Yadav securing a silver medal in the men's event.

The 19-year-old produced his best effort of 74.09 metres on his third attempt to finish second in the competition.

South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Heymans won the gold medal with a throw of 80.50 metres on his sixth and final attempt, which was also reported as the leading U20 world mark for the season.

Ashish's performance adds another significant chapter to India's growing presence in international javelin competition.

His silver medal also draws a direct connection with Neeraj Chopra, who remains the benchmark for Indian javelin at the junior level.

Chopra won the men's javelin gold at the 2016 World Athletics U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, producing a spectacular 86.48-metre throw. World Athletics records that mark as a World U20 Record.

The 2016 performance was a landmark moment for Indian athletics. Chopra became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the World Athletics U20 Championships and set a world record in the process, according to the Press Information Bureau.
