Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is committed to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across all 21 NDA-governed states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking in Mumbai, Shah said the implementation of UCC remains a major policy priority for the NDA. The proposed framework seeks to bring greater uniformity to personal laws governing areas such as marriage, divorce and inheritance.
The Home Minister also highlighted the government's previous legal reforms and said the UCC initiative forms part of the broader legislative agenda of the BJP-led alliance.
According to the plan outlined by Shah, the NDA-ruled states would move toward implementing the common civil framework before the next Lok Sabha election.
Shah also referred to ongoing consultations related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC), particularly in Manipur, and spoke about measures against illegal immigration.
