Delhi Metro Intensifies Security Checks Ahead of Independence Day; Longer Queues Expected

Passengers travelling on the Delhi Metro are likely to face longer queues and additional security checks over the coming week as authorities intensify security arrangements ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that enhanced security checks by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will begin from August 9 and continue through August 16.

The heightened checking is expected to affect passenger movement at some Metro stations, particularly during peak commuting hours.

DMRC has advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and cooperate with security personnel during the checking process.

In an advisory posted on social media, DMRC said the enhanced security arrangements were being introduced in view of Independence Day on August 15 and warned that long queues could develop at some stations.

The advisory covers the period from Sunday, August 9, through Sunday, August 16, meaning passengers travelling during the Independence Day week should factor additional time into their journeys.

The enhanced checks are being carried out as part of the wider security arrangements surrounding the national celebration, when security agencies typically maintain heightened vigilance around major public transport networks and other critical infrastructure.

For daily commuters, the most immediate impact is expected to be at station entry points, where additional screening may increase waiting times during morning and evening rush hours.
