Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood situations this monsoon, with the official death toll rising to 75 after seven more fatalities were reported. Even as floodwaters have started receding in some areas, lakhs of residents remain affected and relief operations are continuing across the state.

In response to the worsening humanitarian situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the ex gratia compensation for the families of flood victims has been increased to ₹9 lakh. The state government has also relaxed documentation requirements, allowing compensation claims to be processed more quickly for affected families.

According to the latest official update, more than 3.3 lakh people remain affected across seven districts, with Charaideo, Sivasagar and Jorhat among the worst-hit regions. Floodwaters have submerged villages, damaged homes, affected farmland and disrupted normal life in several areas.

Rescue and relief efforts are being carried out by the Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, along with local administration and volunteers. Relief camps continue to provide shelter, food and medical assistance to thousands of displaced residents.

The Chief Minister also said that special attention is being given to children staying in relief camps by creating learning and recreational spaces so that their education and well-being are not severely affected during the disaster.

Authorities have appealed to residents in vulnerable areas to follow official advisories and cooperate with emergency teams as restoration work and relief distribution continue across the flood-hit districts.
