Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, celebrated for portraying some of Indian cinema's most memorable villains and character roles, passed away on Tuesday evening after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 74. His manager confirmed that the actor had been undergoing treatment after the disease relapsed.
Rawat built a career spanning more than three decades across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema. He earned nationwide recognition for his portrayal of Ghajini Dharmatma in Ghajini, Deva Singh Sodhi in Lagaan, and Sultan in Sarfarosh. He was also remembered for playing Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra's television classic Mahabharat.
According to reports, Rawat had successfully recovered from cancer a few years ago, but the illness returned recently. He had been hospitalised for over a month before his condition deteriorated. His funeral is expected to take place on Wednesday.
