Editorial Analysis
Why This Matters
The latest ranking provides a snapshot of how wealth ownership and business fortunes are changing across India's economy. The emergence of AI as a standalone wealth-creation sector, alongside continued growth in defence, manufacturing and green energy, points to a broader range of industries represented among India's wealthiest individuals.
India's dollar-billionaire count reached a record 391. The report identified 76 new dollar-billionaire entrants, while the total number of dollar billionaires increased by 27 from the previous year.
The ranking also points to changes in the sources of wealth. Artificial intelligence appeared as a standalone sector for the first time, with 19 individuals collectively holding ₹3.07 lakh crore in wealth. Fifteen of these AI-sector entrants were new additions to the list.
Self-made entrepreneurs accounted for a record 1,266 people, or 70 per cent of the total list. The report also recorded 131 women, compared with 100 a year earlier.
