Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks across India will remain operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the Ministry of Finance said on September 23.
The decision comes ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The strike period follows the weekend holidays of September 26 and 27, which could otherwise have resulted in an extended disruption to banking services.

Editorial Analysis
Why This Matters
The decision is particularly relevant for customers who need branch-based banking services before the proposed strike. Keeping banking infrastructure operational on September 27 is intended to reduce the impact of a potentially extended interruption caused by the strike and preceding weekend holidays.
For customers, the Sunday opening provides an additional opportunity to complete branch-based banking work before the proposed strike period begins.
